how it works
How Does the WakeMate® Work?
The WakeMate monitors your wrist motion and uses a clinically proven science called Actigraphy to translate the motion data into sleep data. Click the link for more on Actigraphy.
What is an "optimal wake point?"
An optimal wake moment can be thought of as a "semi-awake" moment – the lightest point in your sleep. Waking at these times will result in minimal sleep inertia or grogginess. More info can be found here The Science of Waking.
How do you analyze my sleep?
Using Actigraphy we can provide you with a full sleep analysis. More info: Sleep Analysis Using Actigraphy.
What if my optimal wake point is at 5 AM, but I don’t need to get up until 6 AM?
WakeMate uses a 20 minute wake-up window. You set a failsafe alarm time (the latest possible time you are willing to wake) and we wake you within the 20 minute window prior to that failsafe time, at the best point for you!
What if the WakeMate cannot detect my optimal wake point?
WakeMate has a failsafe alarm that will go off at the end of your 20-minute pre-set alarm window, regardless. Don’t worry: WakeMate won’t let you be late!
Can I increase or decrease the 20-minute window?
You can with the iOS version. However, established scientific research (and WakeMate’s own testing) shows that a 20-minute window is best.
On which hand should I wear my WakeMate?
You MUST wear the WakeMate on your non-dominant wrist, to ensure accurate measurement.
How tightly do I have to wear the WakeMate?
You can wear the WakeMate however it’s most comfortable for you. Just make sure to wear it on your non-dominant wrist!
How accurate is WakeMate?
Testing has shown that the WakeMate is 95% - 98% as accurate as medical-grade actigraphs.
usage & policies
Will the WakeMate work with my phone?
WakeMate works on every iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Android and Blackberry phone that has SPP Bluetooth. For specific questions email the WakeMate team at contact@wakemate.com.
Will the alarm go off if my phone is set to vibrate or silent?
Yes it will. The WakeMate app ignores the vibrate/silent setting on your phone.
Can I use a song from my iTunes library as my alarm tone?
Yes, you can. Enjoy!
Do I need a data plan on my cell phone to use WakeMate?
If you want to upload your sleep data to the Wakelytics™ Web platform, you will need either a data plan or a wifi connection. If you do not have either of these, and do not want to take advantage of Wakelytics™ , you can still use WakeMate’s alarm feature.
Which countries does WakeMate ship to?
WakeMate currently ships to the US, Canada and Europe.
What is the warranty on the WakeMate?
The WakeMate comes with a one-year warranty. If it breaks or malfunctions in any way, send it in and we will either repair it or replace it with a new WakeMate.
What is WakeMate’s return policy?
WakeMate offers a 30-day, money-back guarantee. If you are not 100% satisfied, email returns@wakemate.com, send it back, and we will refund you the full price you paid at the time of purchase.
How do I charge my WakeMate?
The WakeMate comes with a mini USB cable for charging. If you have a USB AC adapter from a phone or iPod you can use that for charging as well! It takes about 40 minutes to fully charge.
How long does the battery last on the WakeMate?
The battery currently lasts for 24 hours of use—or, about 2-3 nights, depending on how you sleep.
What happens if I switch phones?
There are two kinds of WakeMates – Apple compatible and non-Apple compatible. Unfortunately, because of restrictions that Apple places on us, the Apple unit will only work with Apple products. Non-Apple units will work on any supported non-Apple product, so you may change phones as many times as you want.
Can multiple people use one WakeMate?
Yes. But each user will need to sign in with his or her own account.
